Welcome to the home of Thames Valley Riders! Since I get a lot of questions
about the Who, What and Where of TVR, I thought we should have our mission
statement here on the home page.
John Dubois
Who:
We are a club for off-road motorcycle enthusiast. Most of our activities
focus on Motocross racing these days, but the founding fathers had these objectives
in mind:
- Promote safe and responsible operation or off-road motorcycles.
- To provide training in the operation and safe use of off road motorcycles
through schools and seminars,
- To promote a positive public image of off-road
motorcycles and those who ride them,
- To ensure continued access to public and
private lands for the purpose or off-road motorcycle riding, and
- To bring
about and foster a spirit of unity and comradeship among off-road motorcycle
riders.
Well we haven't done any schools in a while, but we are doing a great job
on the rest. Our members range in age from 5 years old to over 60. TVR events
are family affairs; parents come out to watch the kids race and kids come out to
watch parents race. Although focused on "house league" racing, you will probably
find someone to challenge your riding skills.
What:
Thames Valley Riders is a non-profit corporation incorporated in Ontario in
1998. The original directors were Steve Emery, Giuseppe Comito, Thomas Gilmour,
Jeff Orchard, Gord Inglis, Bruce Gaily, and Robert Lang. The original directors were a bunch of
riding buddies who wanted to protect and enhance off-road motorcycling.
Jeff's relative used to live on my street, and told me about the club back in 1997.
I joined the executive team in 1999 when the last of the original executive
quit. The current executive are listed in the Contact Us
page. The basic idea is a club for the members, by the members.TVR
is too small to get its own insurance policy, so we are associated with the
national organization CRMC (Canadian Motorsport Racing Club) for this purpose.
Members of TVR are also required to join CMRC as a "Closed Club" member. This
gives TVR members access to some of the benefits of CMRC membership with the
option of becoming a full CMRC member by paying the difference in fees to CMRC.
Where:
Even from the early days TVR has never had a "home". We have always traveled to
various locations around London, Ontario where most of the founding directors
lived. We still visit many tracks but are now range further a
field. You can get an idea of where we race or practice by looking at the
Schedule or Venues pages. Today many members use this Web site to exchange ideas
or catch up on the latest news and scores, or contact other members. We have
members from Windsor, Sarnia and Toronto, and all points in between. Most of the tracks from those early days are
long gone, but The Pit and Gopher Dunes are still around, and new tracks have
joined the schedule. I still remember my first TVR race at The Pit. |
